BRINGER OF THE HEART: LISA CAPUTO

Planting seeds for a new way of being...

A movement is happening and is being led by Bringers of the Heart, people who are planting seeds for more love and acceptance. Clients and beauty professionals alike are seeking more meaning and purpose in life. This presents an opportunity for estheticians who are feeling called to offer healing modalities in their practice. Beauty professionals are offering healing modalities to help create this new heart-based reality through their business.

Read stories of Transformative Esthetic students who bring more love and acceptance into the world through their lives and businesses. Linda’s student Lisa Caputo shares her Bringer of the Heart experience:

"Since taking the Reiki training and the Heal the Healer program, I’ve been developing more meaningful relationships and creating deeply impressionable moments. I've learned & I teach that a calm presence connects you to the moment, to yourself, your awareness, & to others. As a result, you don't feel scattered & distracted. And, when there is peace you're able to discover the beauty and joy in your surroundings and with others. In the end you find gratitude for having been present to fully be submerged in your experience. And that builds a life of meaning.

Like Linda’s self-guided meditation suggests, I frequently "call back my energy from places I may have left it throughout the day."  It helps to collect myself, ground and calm me. I'm clearer in what I do and don't want in my life; hold onto the good, let go of the bad. My heart feels full.

Reiki reminds me to check in with my intuition/ heart/ gut-feelings. If it doesn't feel good, I don't get involved or engage. I avoid drowning with, or taking on the energy of "life suckers". I love providing a safe, relaxing sanctuary for my clients to strip away their exterior shell, bare their souls, & rejuvenate their spirit. It's a beautiful ripple-effect; when one feels good, they embrace good, attract good, & do good."

Experience the healthy approach to beautiful that goes beyond skin deep with Lisa’s Transformative Aesthetic & Reiki treatments at her Face Value Skin Care Studio located in, Mountain View, CA. You will walk out glowing both inside and out!

The Mayan Calendar: The End of the World or End of an Era?

Contributing post by Linda Bertaut for www.aTrueLatina.com The suspense is building as we near the winter solstice on 12/21/12 marking the last day of the Mayan Calendar. Is the shortest day of the year also going to be our last? Did Mayans possess the ability to see into the future to predict the end of the world as we know it? Yes, they did.

Our world evolves in cycles. Winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year and a return to light. The end of one cycle begins the next. You are a walking example of cyclical change. The end of the Mayan calendar marks the shift from thoughts of the mind to feelings of the heart, not the end of the world.

The Mayan people revere all life as sacred. Their greeting, In Lak’ech Ala K’in represents their way of life…meaning, I am you and you are me. Spiritual significance is found in all things and celebrated.

Have you noticed changes in your life recently? Have you felt more sentimental? Do tears well up when you are touched by beauty or pain. Do you feel agitated at times, like you are growing out of your own skin? If you said yes, you already have one foot in the new era ruled by the heart.

Celebrate the wisdom of the Maya by immersing yourself in this new energy of love and conscious awareness. Slow down. Enjoy life. Spend time in Nature. Empty your mind and let your heart reign supreme.

Face & Body Spa Conference & Expo 2012

By Linda Bertaut

Face & Body Trade show floor

Face & Body celebrated its 20th anniversary this month in San Jose, CA. I have a special affinity for this trade show as it was the first one to hire me to write for their magazine, Skin Inc., and speak at their Face & Body back in 2003. After 9/11, I have been on a mission to teach estheticians how to heal themselves and share this healing energy with clients. Since then I have written for a number of beauty industry trade magazines, I have a chapter in the Milady textbook and I speak at shows across the country. Thank you Melinda and Marion for giving me a chance to share my message!

On Saturday, I was part of the advanced education day where I taught “The Meridian Dance: Moving Body Affirmations for Wellness.” The meridians are invisible “energy” channels throughout the body which supply us with health and vitality when fully functioning. Estheticians can stimulate meridian points on the face and upper body to help reduce stress, anxiety and improve the flow of chi throughout the body. You can read more on my articles page about this.

Teaching the Meridian Dance

After giving my class I was able to see what others were speaking about. Here is a recap on the classes I attended:

• “Indigenous Natural Body Treatments” was taught by a non-industry person who turned “Kitchen Cosmetics” into a business by telling the story of her products using herbs grown on her property. I love mixing potions and masks in the kitchen…

• Rebecca James-Gadberry spoke passionately about “The Epigenome – Where the Environment and Genome Meet.” Did you know that a system of molecular tags responding to environmental influences such as UV, diet, stress, and drugs just to name a few can change your genetic expression triggering disease and cellular aging in you and future generations of your offspring? Whew….There is so much more to this conversation than one sentence.

• Jan Marini shared images and the warning signs of various types of Rosacea in “Rosacea: A Growing Concern for the Aging Population.” Did you know that Rosacea affects more than 14 million Americans? You can manage it with various treatments and medication but you cannot cure it. Here is what it looks like:

Rosacea beginning stage

Rosacea with acne - advanced

• Michael Pugliese did a fabulous job of sharing how inflammation starts in the cell and causes aging in, “Physiology of the Skin: Inflammation and Aging Skin.” The inflammation and free radical cascades are directly linked. What you put in your body and environmental exposure can hinder or enhance your health and speed up the aging process. Feed your cells and your feed your skin.

Walking the trade show floor I saw a number of “apothecary type” products allowing the esthetician to add powdered extracts containing nutrients and actives into their treatments and products that they can mix on the spot. With so much fear about “chemicals and preservatives” in skin care it provides an alternative for treatments.

By the way, ALL products are full of chemicals…because everything is a chemical except light and electricity. If you want to protect your health and have a shelf life for your skin care and cosmetics, you need preservatives in everything that is a liquid or cream. Without preservatives you are exposed to bacteria or microbial growth in your products which can affect your skin and health. So beware of people who tell you their products have no chemicals or preservatives. This is a sign they were not properly educated on chemistry. I will write more on this topic and interview cosmetic chemists and formulators so you can get the real scoop.

Love Makes Magic Happen by Linda Bertaut

Love Makes Magic Happen is an inspired book to lift the spirits that I wrote in 1995. I use this in classes and sell a version of this book in my business. You can read it from cover to cover OR, you can close your eyes and take a moment to think of a question or issue you have. Once you have something in mind, choose a number between 5 - 28. Go to that page for your inspired answer. Let me know your results. (Click on the 3rd button from the right to see this in full screen) Chakraliciously yours, Linda

Int’l Esthetic, Cosmetic & Spa Conference

I have been an esthetician since 1987; meaning I am "licensed to touch" and transform clients with services such as facials, waxing and make-up. Although I have used my license mainly to teach make-up, image and wellness therapies, I enjoy being a part of this industry. We really care about people "inside and out" as true beauty starts within.

When I began my career in beauty, estheticians didn't have a large presence. We were found at a few booths at the large "Hair Shows." Over time, the pioneers in our industry started educating and investing in our future. We now have numerous trade shows just for estheticians. Each year these trade shows allow us to receive advanced education, see new products and learn what is new in the industry.

For the past few years I have been exhibiting and speaking so I don't have time to get around the show like I used to. There is a certain adrenaline rush about these shows that I love. It is intense and action packed for the 2 - 3 days of the show...not to mention the prep work needed before and after the show.

This year I traveled to NYC in April and Las Vegas in June. After the shows, I rejuvenate at home with David, spending time in the garden, reading and watching movies.

Here are pics from the shows and my presentation topics:

  1. Simple Spa Pleasures: Small Investments that Create a Big Impact...is an excerpt from my retreats and Mini-Wellness Treatments class where I teach how to create an Herbal Aroma Bar, make gemstone drinks, Herbal teas and more.
  2. Chakra Personality Types: Turn Your Client’s Motivation into Repeat Business...where I shared how to match spa services and products to appeal to each personality type.
  3. Romancing the Gemstone...was a hands-on class teaching participants how to select, tune into and perform gemstone treatments on others. There is nothing quite like being surrounded and covered by gemstones.

Pendulums, pendulum necklaces, gemstone kits, gemstone cards, books and cd's are all popular at the shows. I help estheticians enhance their treatments with wellness therapies from Nature. This is what I call Chakralicious. Fill yourself with the color energy from Nature and you enhance your body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Gemstones, pendulums and cards...oh my!

Gemstones have become very popular and they are a lot like puppies...they choose you. When you can't stop looking at a gemstone because it is calling out to you...it wants you to take it home.
